We cling to the past because we fear the unknown.hurt again?”
What we fail to see is this: we are not our past.
Our experiences and our pain do not define us.
When we live in the present through the lens of the past, we set ourselves up for unhappiness. We begin to measure our worth by what happened to us, allowing old wounds to dictate our value. In doing so, we sabotage our potential and quietly lock ourselves into a prison of our own making.
Imagine yourself as a ship rocking on tumultuous waters. The dark waves crashing around you are your past—loud, relentless, unforgiving. The anchor keeps you stuck there, steady but trapped. What if you raised that anchor? Let yourself glide forward. Slowly, the storm calms. The waters settle. Peace returns.
Train your mind to notice that the glass is also half full. Pause and acknowledge what is working in your life—because so much of it is taken for granted. As the saying goes, “We are products of our past, but we don’t have to be prisoners of it.”
How many of us walk through life weighed down by the baggage of our journey? You cannot fully embrace new relationships, new friendships, new careers, or a new life while still holding on to the baggage of the last one.
So let go.
Allow yourself to receive what is waiting for you—right at your feet.
You deserve it.
