Tamarind City is all about Chennai or Madras and I could immediately relate to it and fell in love with the book from page one as I am a south indian.

Its a journey of different cultures meeting at one place, the rivalry between Iyers and Iyengars. The class difference, music dance which echoes from almost every house hold . The smell of tamarind, rasam, sambar dosas, idils, chutney etc… Chennai is a city where people of all castes try to live with each other yet at some point the feeling of being superior never goes which has been brought out brilliantly by Biswanath Ghosh.

I rediscovered Chennai thanks to this book and learned many facets i was unaware of.

A brilliant book, well written and informative
