The first thing that struck me when I picked up this book to read is that I have spent many hours and times in the line for a ticket for a train journey, sometimes frustrated, sometimes helpless and at times thankful for the person beyond the counter for being patient and helpful. It is not an easy job attending hundred of people at a time, impatient, rude and angry, breaking the line etc.
Being from a Railway background , Platform Ticket took me on a nostalgic train journey of meeting people on the platform, sharing kulad chai with friends and strangers, exchanging tales etc. I still remember the book stall Higginbotham where i would buy my magazines and books for my journey, the tap on the platform where I would fill my water, no one bothered about filtered water then.
This is a must read for all whether they are travellers or not, totally engrossing and enjoyable which takes you on a journey you wish would never end.
